Easy Dishwasher Maintenance Tips For Every Home

A dishwasher is one of the most convenient appliances in any modern kitchen, saving time while delivering spotless dishes with minimal effort. However, like any household appliance, it requires regular maintenance to keep performing at its best. A little care can prevent costly repairs, improve cleaning performance, and extend the lifespan of your dishwasher. Here are some practical maintenance tips every homeowner should follow.

1. Clean the Filter Regularly

The dishwasher filter traps food particles and debris during every wash cycle. Over time, these particles accumulate and can cause unpleasant odors, poor cleaning performance, and drainage problems. Remove the filter every few weeks, rinse it under warm water, and gently scrub away stubborn residue with a soft brush.

2. Wipe the Door Seals

Rubber door gaskets collect moisture, grease, and food residue that may lead to mold or mildew. Wipe the seals with a damp cloth and mild detergent once a week to keep them clean and maintain a proper seal.

3. Check and Clean the Spray Arms

Spray arms distribute water throughout the dishwasher. If their holes become clogged with food particles or mineral deposits, dishes may not come out clean. Remove the spray arms if possible and clean the holes using a toothpick or soft brush.

4. Run a Cleaning Cycle

Every month, run an empty dishwasher with a dishwasher cleaner or a cup of white vinegar placed on the top rack. This helps remove grease, limescale, and lingering odors while keeping the interior fresh and hygienic.
